For many years during the 20th century workers’ social lives were organised through sports and their union. Trophies were contested, some of which are on display. These include the EJ Carey Challenge Shield for relay races contested between unions from after World War 1, the Leah Shield for rugby league contested among public passenger transport unions, and the Coachworkers Cup contested between motor assembly plant workers for rugby.
